All counseling sessions are CONFIDENTIAL. No information will be shared unless a student authorizes the release of information to individuals of his/her choosing. This may be done only with expressed written consent. Information considered confidential includes the attendance of sessions, information exchanged in counseling, and records kept by Counseling Services (CS). No information will be included in academic records or job placement files.
The exceptions to our privacy practices include:
• When CS staff believes an individual presents an imminent danger to him/herself or others.
• When the life or safety of an identifiable person is at risk.
• When CS staff believes that a child or vulnerable adult is being subjected to abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
• When a court of law mandates or subpoena’s information.
University of Bridgeport’s Counseling Services is subject to Connecticut Privacy Laws and ethical codes of the National Association of Social Workers, American Counseling Association, and/or the American Psychiatric Association.
