University of Bridgeport honors MLK with Day of Service and other programs

The University of Bridgeport will honor the life and legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with service opportunities and other programs on Monday, January 21, 2019.

The school’s annual Day of Service begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Arnold Bernhard Center as students, faculty, staff, and members of the community gather to help Fairfield County agencies and nonprofits. They include:

  • The Discovery Museum
  • Harborview Towers
  • Downtown Special Services District
  • Homes for the Brave
  • Hearts of Hope

Free lunch and transportation to service sites will be provided.

State Comptroller Kevin Lembo will address volunteers at 9 a.m.

Other 2019 MLK Day events include three workshops, held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cox Student Center. They are:

  • LGBT + Ally Training, co-presented by UB and Triangle Community Center
  • The Freedom Writers Workshop
  • Common Ground: A Social Justice Workshop
