Connecticut Poet Laureate and UB professor emeritus Dick Allen to appear at ‘Necessary Voices’ writing series on November 18
Dick Allen, Connecticut’s top poet, will be the featured speaker on Thursday, November 18 at Necessary Voices, the new lecture series on writing and the arts hosted by the University of Bridgeport Department of English.
Allen’s lecture, “Unexpected Seeing: A Poetry Reading with Zen Undertones,” will held at 4:30 p.m. at the Arnold Bernhard Center Gallery, 84 Iranistan Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
Named Connecticut Poet Laureate in June 2010, Allen is the former Charles A. Dana Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing at the University of Bridgeport. His poetry has appeared in The Best American Poetry, The New Yorker, and Atlantic Monthly, among other publications.
Allen’s most recent collection, Present Vanishing: Poems, received the 2009 Connecticut Book Award for Poetry.
