FigurativePlace.jpgThe Schelfhaudt Gallery at the University of Bridgeport presents “The Figurative Place,” an exhibition of portraits by Maralyn Adlin, Cara DeAngelis, and Kim Raisbeck, from September 19 to November 21. The gallery is located inside the Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Avenue, Bridgeport.

An opening reception will be held 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., September 19.

“These artists are examples of excellence in rendering human form and their surroundings,” said Schelfhaudt Gallery curator Peter Knosterlie. “Each has a different take of the surrounding elements of the picture-plane. Some imagined, some decorative, but all compelling and integral in finding meaning within the composition.”

About the artists:

Maralyn Adlin studied painting at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and has earned her living as an illustrator of story boards and toy-package design. She lives and works at the Read’s Building in Bridgeport.

Cara DeAngelis is a recipient of the CT Office of the Arts Fellowship Grant for 2012, as well as the Barbara Deming/Money for Women Grant. She has had full fellowships at both the Vermont Studio Center and the Prairie Center of the Arts. In 2010 she was awarded residency at the Terra Foundation in Giverny, France. She is also a recipient of the Rudolph Zallinger Painting Award. She studied New York Academy of Art and currently lives and works between New York and Connecticut as an artist and curator.

Kim Raisbeck was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. She came to the US ten years ago after graduating from Jorge Tadeo University with a degree in Fine Arts. Her work is driven by an interest in spirituality, diversity and the complex fabric of human emotion.

The Schelfhaudt Gallery is open Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and Saturday noon to 4 p.m. It is closed on Fridays.
