My child was not accepted into a major but into the First Year Studies Program (FYSP). Does this add another year to my student’s academic career?
In most cases, beginning in the FYSP does not necessarily add a year to your student’s schooling. With judicious planning and close collaboration with the advisor, a program can be designed that will be a combination of the general education requirements and major introductory courses. However, some majors have a large number of required courses that must be taken in a specific sequence. Sometimes students must take prerequisites before they are allowed to take these courses and/or the courses are offered only in certain semesters. These factors may affect the student’s time in school.
