Hartford HealthCare Partners with University of Bridgeport to Expand On-Campus Care

BRIDGEPORT, CT- Hartford HealthCare and University of Bridgeport announce a partnership that will bring comprehensive healthcare services on campus as part of the health system’s Campus Cares Program. This collaboration enhances accessibility to quality healthcare for university students and staff, reinforcing both organizations’ commitment to fostering healthy communities and supporting their shared belief that health and wellness are vital components of academic success.

This partnership launches in the Fall 2024 semester, with plans for expansion and enhancement in the future. University of Bridgeport is the 6th school in the state to join Hartford HealthCare’s Campus Cares program.

Through Campus Cares, students can prioritize their well-being through convenient access to a wide range of resources such as primary care, preventative screenings, mental health referrals and offsite urgent care.

“This collaboration marks a significant step forward in enhancing the health and wellness of our students by providing them with increased access to a comprehensive healthcare system in the state,” says Danielle Wilken, EdD, president of University of Bridgeport. “Our students’ well-being is our top priority and this partnership ensures they will receive even more high-quality medical care and support right here on campus. We look forward to the positive impact this will have on our university community.”

Leadership in Hartford HealthCare’s Fairfield Region, where the school is located, is eager to support the partnership.

“I am excited to collaborate with the university and facilitate connections between the faculty, staff and students and our Hartford HealthCare experts. Our healthcare providers will be on site to ensure that the UB community stays healthy. If additional resources are ever needed, we have a wide range of specialists located just a few miles away,” said Bill Jennings, president of St. Vincent’s Medical Center. “Given Hartford HealthCare and University of Bridgeport are both key anchor institutions in the region, the partnership makes perfect sense.

“We are thrilled to embark on this journey with University of Bridgeport,” says Eric Smullen, Senior Vice President of Hartford HealthCare’s Community Network. “This partnership represents a significant step forward in our mission to coordinate high-quality, safe healthcare within the Hartford HealthCare network making care more accessible and convenient to all students.
