Whether you live on campus or commute from home, it’s never been a more exciting time to be a Purple Knight.
“I came to University of Bridgeport with a mission to be the first college graduate in my family. My UB student experiences have made me the successful student leader I am today. In these past four years, I joined the Student Programming Board, became President of the Gender Sexuality Awareness Club, the captain of United We Step, a student worker in the Center for Student Involvement, and a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council.”

“After two years on University of Bridgeport’s campus, I became academically successful but still lacked traits and skills I could only develop through clubs and organizations on campus. I knew leadership and working collaboratively with a team were incredibly important life skills. I wanted the whole experience, so I joined clubs that would take me out of my comfort zone. The Alternative Spring Break was one of them, where I was able to work with others to achieve the common goal of helpings others and contributing to the betterment of the environment.”
-Kojo Twum-Barima
“UB prepared me for the world by challenging me inside and outside the classroom. UB set me up for success through the many events they held on campus. My experiences at UB taught me how to maintain a healthy work-life balance. During my junior year, I was president of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, on the Future Leaders of Hip-Hop dance team, and two other clubs on campus, and I worked as an RA — all while studying Biology and preparing to go on to veterinary school. I wouldn’t change my UB experience for the world!”

“I have a Doctor of Health Science degree, an MBA in management, and a bachelor’s — all from UB. These degrees have opened so many doors for me. Since starting my DHSc., it has always been my dream to work in community health. I specifically wanted to work with underserved, underinsured, uninsured, and undocumented women. These are obstacles I faced early in my life, and I always wanted to give back. Thanks to my complete UB education, I can hold this position and live out my dream of working with this population.”
-Dr. Paula Garay, DHSc., MBA
“My experience at UB in the Nutrition program was amazing and exceeded all my expectations. Before starting the master’s in Human Nutrition program, I worked as an herbalist and small business owner. During the program, I received a grant to investigate and research one of my herbal formulas. I received a second grant to work with the faculty at the Bauer Hall Innovation Center to expand my small business. UB helped me use these two grants to advance my business, including introducing online sales. I want to thank the professors at UB, I learned so much from them, and they gave me invaluable opportunities to grow.”
