Accreditation and Memberships

University of Bridgeport is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. The University also is accredited by the Connecticut Office of Higher Education.

National accreditations of professional programs have been granted by the following accrediting bodies in the areas noted:

  • The UB Medical Laboratory Science program is fully accredited by NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science). This entitles all students graduating from the program the ability to sit for the national certification examination by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology).
  • The M.S. Physician Assistant program is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.
  • Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association for associate (A.S.) and baccalaureate (B.S.) degree program in Dental Hygiene.
  • The baccalaureate (BS) degree programs in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org
  • The Doctor of Chiropractic degree program is awarded programmatic accreditation by The Council on Chiropractic Education. All professional and teacher-training programs in education have received accreditation from the Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • The Ernest C. Trefz School of Business undergraduate and graduate programs are professionally accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). (ACBSP accreditation does not include A.A. degree in Business Administration.)
  • The Acupuncture Institute masters and doctoral programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM), which is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine practitioners.
  • The University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
  • The School of Education is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
  • The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at University of Bridgeport is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
  • The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), has granted accreditation to the Clinical Mental Health Counseling MS degree program in the College of Arts and Sciences at University of Bridgeport through March 31, 2028.
  • The Human Nutrition Master's program is licensed and accredited by the Connecticut Board of Governors Office of Higher Education, while University of Bridgeport is institutionally accredited through the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The MS in Nutrition program is the first to be accredited by the Accreditation Council on Nutrition Professional Education (ACNPE), a programmatic accrediting agency for clinical programs in advanced nutrition.

Professional licensure disclosure

Like all accredited institutions, University of Bridgeport adheres to all federal regulations regarding academic process and procedures. One of them is the final regulations for accreditation and state authorization by the U.S. Department of Education. Part of this regulation expands the protection of students enrolled in programs leading to professional licenses. According to this federal rule, the University is required to disclose whether or not an academic program meets a different state's educational requirements for licensure or certification.

Based on that legislation, University of Bridgeport states the following: when you become a University of Bridgeport student, you are responsible for checking licensure requirements in your state of residence. THESE REQUIREMENTS AND RULES VARY STATE BY STATE. If you move to a new state, you are responsible for ensuring our program is approved in this new state.
