The Fones School of Dental Hygiene leads the dental hygiene profession in its commitment to students by providing an exemplary comprehensive education in evidence-based knowledge, patient centered clinical care and public health access to care.
As the first school of dental hygiene, the Fones School is recognized locally and globally as the benchmark in oral health education. The program strives to support students in their achievement of entry level and advanced degrees essential to advance the profession of dental hygiene now and in the future.
This commitment involves helping students achieve course objectives and competencies, meet curricular requirements, and apply knowledge to patient care situations.
The Fones School upholds standards of health care and professionalism that are consistent with society’s expectations. Fones students are expected to reflect the values of personal health and wellness.
As licensed professional oral health educators and clinicians, Fones graduates will practice as members of the dental team, utilizing knowledge of biomedical, dental, and clinical sciences to assist individuals and groups in achieving and maintaining optimum oral health.
Graduates are qualified for the written National Dental Hygiene Board Examination and subsequent clinical licensure exams in every state or region, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, as well as in Canada and other foreign countries.
Graduates are also prepared to pursue graduate studies in dental hygiene or related fields.
