She is also a graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Fones School of Dental Hygiene earning her Bachaeloriette degree in 1990. While a student at Fones, Gretchen served as SAADA President for two consecutive terms and received the Fones Service Award upon graduating. Her DH306 project, while a senior in the program, was to design and implement a Dental Public Health rotation for second year students at The Hill Health Center, New Haven. This rotation provided outreach experiences for Fones students through 2012.
Gretchen has worked continuously in dental hygiene in various settings including private practice, community dental health, clinical instruction, practice management, design and implementation of dental hygiene best practices. Her passion as an educator began with her position as Northeast Regional Hygiene Coach/Mentor for a national dental management corporation. This position led her to an Adjunct Faculty position in clinical dental hygiene education. Perseverance, determination and the desire to combine her love of teaching and technology’s role in education allowed Gretchen to complete her MEd Magna cum Laude. Shortly after her graduation she accepted a Clinical Assistant Professor position at Fones. Her responsibilities include a Clinical Dental Public Health rotation, clinical instruction for both first and second year students at the Fones Clinic, and instructing Dental Materials and its three lab sections. She also assists in the Master’s program as a Thesis Advisor.
Gretchen is committed to mentoring her students in recognizing their collaborative responsibility as a primary component of their client’s healthcare team. She looks forward to participating in her professional organizations and working tirelessly for the advancement and evolution of the profession of Dental Hygiene.
